Les Olympiques chez ERB!

Olympic FEVER is "high" at Ecole Robert Browning!  Every morning for the past 2 weeks, student representatives have been carrying the "Olympic Torch" through our hallways!  It has been an awesome experience to watch the growing pride and anticipation of the Olympic events, as students lined the hallways to cheer their peers on!  Please watch this great video clip, lovingly created by our very own Mme Johanne Sawyer - Admininstrative Assistant Extraordinaire, which highlights the torch bearing events with the culmination at our February School Assembly held in our gymnasium this past Friday, February 7.  You will notice the abundance of RED & WHITE clothing!  Thank you to M Vermeylen for sharing this great idea with us and to all the staff who helped carry it through.  Merci beaucoup!   Vas-y Canada!! Let's go CANADA!

Art is Alive at ERB!

An appreciation for art and an eye for school beautification has opened up incredible opportunities for us at École Robert Browning!  It all began last year, when through the divisional Integrated Arts Program, we came to know and love the work of Dimitry, talented mosaic artist.  Our vision was to create an art piece representative of who we are at ERB and to commemorate our 50th year "Learning and Growing"!  What resulted was the amazing piece of art that adorns our front foyer, made lovingly with the ideas and hands of all our staff and students!

With this as our inspiration, we again contacted Dimitry, and this year, through our Dancing for Dollars fundraising and The Mantioba Arts Council, we have created 2 other fabulous pieces of art!

On the main stairwell, you will find a wall to wall mosaic made by our Kindergarten,  Grade 1 & Grade 2 students depicting artistically what community means to them.  You will notice our school at the heart of the many pathways and 51 hearts, signifying our 50 years together and +1 for moving toward the future.  Notice that all hearts are different, symbolizing our diversity and beauty.  Bravo aux petits qui on t bien travaille ensemble!

On the second floor, you will find an artistically flowing maple leaf, representative of our nation and filled with the beautiful colours of the aurora borealis, or the Nothern Lights, which connect all of us. You will also see 13 silhouettes of trees which represent our 10 provinces and 3 territories.  These wonderful ideas grew from the collaboration of our Grade 3, 4, & 5 students.  Take a moment to ask any of them about this art piece, how it was created and what their part was in it!  They will be happy to tell you all about it!  Feliciations aux élèves de ces niveaux; vous avez bien représenté notre pays et vos connaissances!  Bien fait!

Be sure to take some time to enjoy the magnificent and timeless art new to our building!

His Honour, Lieutenant Governor Philip Lee Visits RB!

We were paid a special visit by His Honour, Lieutenant Governor Philip Lee, on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.  He read to all students in our school gymnasium and donated two wonderful books to our school library!  Students and staff enjoyed his storytelling, use of français, and meeting his daughter, who was a former École Robert Browning student.  Many thanks to Mme Rothwell for organizing his visit and to all staff for welcoming a special guest and a new learning opportunity for all of us to embrace!  Merci et BRAVO!
His Honour, reading to us from a comfy chair in the gym.

Janvier...c'était J'aime Lire

January was an exciting month as we returned from our Winter Break on January 6 and got right into the groove of our wonderful " I Love to Read" month, also known en français as "J'aime Lire"!  Students and staff alike were fully entertained with our kick-off assembly which featured a flash-mob "Read Me Maybe" song/dance by our staff!  The month rolled merrily along, inspite of frigid temperatures, bus cancellations and indoor recess galore.  Guest readers were a frequent occurrence in our school this month; thank you to all those who were able to come in.  Our month culminates with a special Prairie Theatre Exchange presentation of "50 Below", highlighting a number of Robert Munsch favourites.  Finally, our "Hats Off to Reading" assembly on January 30 is sure to be a treat with a few surprises awaiting our Robert Browning family!  Merci pour un mois extraordinaire!
